What is Skilio’s Industry Immersion Programme?

The Skilio Industry Immersion Programme seeks to equip Singaporean tertiary students with meaningful experiential learning experiences, both culturally and industrially, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. By doing so, we strive to empower them to create meaningful initiatives and solutions for real-life problems faced by companies in both Singapore and Vietnam.

What will you be doing?

Embark on an enriching and immersive journey through Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where you’ll gain valuable insights into the local culture, education, and industries. Here is what you can expect from this exciting trip:

Educational Institutions

Opportunities to visit universities and engage with local students, immersing yourself in the Vietnamese education system

 

 

E.g. At Fullbright University our participants gained a deeper understanding of the Vietnamese education system, their teaching methodologies, and how their unique culture influences learning. This eye-opening experience helped them to appreciate the value of a diverse and global perspective

Youth Organisations

Be empowered through meaningful interactions with local change makers

 

E.g. Our participants visited Lead the Change Asia, a social impact organisation dedicated to empowering youths through innovation and collaboration. They had a panel discussion with their director and learned more about the opportunities for Vietnamese youths to – innovate and create a lasting impact on their community

Who Can Join?

We welcome everyone to join our programme!
However, in order to qualify for the subsidised rate of $160, you have to fit the following criteria:

  • 15 – 35 years old
  • Singapore Citizen
  • Current Student in an Institute of Higher Learning OR graduated for < 3 years
  • Have not be funded by NYC’s AEP grant before

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the total commitment expected for the 8-day hybrid programme?
  • We’ll hold a pre-trip briefing virtually for an hour at least 2 weeks before the trip. The date and time will be determined based on the availability of your trip batch. Parents can attend the briefing to know about the trip itinerary.
  • The actual trip in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam will be 4D3N
  • You’ll have the freedom to choose when to discuss the project with your groupmates – during the trip, when you return to Singapore, or both. Some time during the trip will also be allocated for project discussions.
  • The final project presentation will be held virtually for 2 hours in the evening. The date and time will be determined based on the availability of your trip batch.
When do the sign ups close and when are we expected to make payment?
  • Sign ups for each trip close on Monday, 2359hrs, 2 weeks before the trip
  • Announcements with regards to payment will be made within the same week as well
How much do I have to pay and what does it cover?
  • SGD$160 + $80 (refundable trip deposit, will be transferred back to you after you successfully complete your final project presentation). Total SGD $240.
  • Coverage: Return airfare, accomodations, local transport in Vietnam, travel insurance, meal allowance (about $15 a day, you can top up if you want to eat more; you will receive your meal allowance through your PayNow/PayLah! number)
  • You will have to purchase your own esim/ sim card/ roaming if you want to have internet and call/ message access there
What kind of accommodations are we staying at?
  • You will be staying at a hotel there, with 2-3 sharing a room (single bed)
  • Breakfast is included
  • If you’re uncomfortable with sharing a bed or would like to room with a friend, do let us know in the registration form!

Is there a itinerary of what we will be doing during the trip?

Programme booklets will be sent to all of you before the pre-trip briefing with the exact details including emergency contacts, hotel address, flight details etc

Is there free and easy time? 

We won’t promise that for every trip – however in the event that we complete the debrief on time and there’s some extra time in the day, we will give everyone some unscheduled time with a curfew time to be back at the hotel

Could you share more details about the group project?
  • Every group (of 4-5 pax) will be assigned a problem statement to work on. This will be contributed by an industry partner that we will visit during the trip 
  • During the final pitch presentation, the group will have 10 min to share about their findings and proposed solutions to this problem statement based on a set of rubrics 
  • Groups can work on the pitch during free time during the trips, and/or after they come back to Singapore from Vietnam.
